Frequently asked questions

How do you count unique hectares?

Data from a farm plot will only count once in any subscription year, no matter how many
times you run the tests.

What does the EUDR test profile entail?

We conduct 50 rigorous tests on field data, physical flow data, and EUDR compliance—more than any other provider. Our work is directly aligned with source articles from the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and focuses on four key areas across 35 origins.

  • Data quality. Our tests provide a risk rating on the truthfulness of data at the farm level, focusing on geolocations and attributes. We cover data integrity, consistency, and plausibility to help identify potential risks or problematic areas, ensuring that any inaccuracies are flagged before they lead to compliance issues under the Regulation.some text

  • Deforestation. We conduct deforestation tests following the EUDR definition, ensuring that products are deforestation-free. Our assessments are based on reputable sources and combine public deforestation maps with commercial layers, such as those from Space Intelligence, providing adequate, conclusive and verifiable information.some text

  • Origin law & legality. We assess the risk of compliance with production laws and relevant legislation in the country of origin, covering land use and indigenous rights, environmental and forest protection, and human rights. We ensure that commodities are produced according to legal requirements and industry standards (ECA, ECF).some text

  • Traceability (at additional cost). Our risk rating focuses on the truthfulness of traceability data at the parcel level, ensuring the integrity of the chain of custody. We cover data integrity, consistency, and plausibility, supporting companies in meeting the required EUDR traceability standards.some text

How long do you store data for audit purposes?

We store data for five years to ensure it is audit-ready and accessible to authorities.

How many countries do you support?

Currently, we support 35+ origins. For details on upcoming origins, please get in touch with our sales department.

How do you detect deforestation under EUDR?

The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) defines ‘deforestation’ as the conversion of forest to agricultural use, whether human-induced or not.

We conduct compliance tests to verify whether farm plots are located in a protected forest or overlap with deforested areas. Any overlap with an area identified as deforested is

considered a deforestation risk. The level of risk is categorised based on the percentage of overlaps with these areas – low, medium, high, or critical. For example, we classify polygons that overlap with an area of 0.5 hectares or more as critical.

How do you check the legality aspect of the EUDR?

Verify will comprehensively address various aspects of legality at the specific farm plot or municipal level, including ensuring compliance with land, human, and environmental rights.

Verify will be the leading solution for addressing legality issues through quantitative, location-based verification of legality violations and issues based on proximity to your sourcing base/production sites, with a particular focus on EUDR articles 9 and 10.

We ensure the reliability of our methodology by continuously collecting and updating information and reference data from 35+ origins through our dedicated Data & Methodology team.

To provide real-time verification and EUDR compliance validation, we pre-verify legality aspects using credible reference data. Additionally, we enhance our model with annual bottom-up assessments through field visits in different countries and other initiatives.

Collaboration with ICE CoT and our affiliated partner, KPMG, is essential for aligning the order of rollout of new origin countries to be covered under Verify, define high-risk areas, and check relevant reference data for legality checks.
